What's makes the LaunchPad successful in the SPRINT START?

See a demonstration in Dartfish here.

Research has identified several key factors present in efficient, effective sprint starts:

  1. Forward Lean
  2. Knee Drive
  3. Arm Action
  4. "Propulsive" contact on first step

The LaunchPad is designed to create a 6.3 degree tilt upon the sprinter as he/she explodes from the block. This subtle but effective change places sprinters into a more favorable sprinting position.

The LaunchPad allows athletes not only to "feel" these key components first hand, by placing them into a more favorable physical position, they are able to perform more starts correctly with less effort or strength in one practice session. The LaunchPad has been tested, and produces faster times to five and to ten meters.

Studies of the LaunchPad with novice to elite sprinters show a .02 to .03 improvement in sprint times to 5 and to 10 meters. Starts on the LaunchPad, and flat were randomly assigned and compared. Results show improvements in speed, stride frequency, forward lean, knee drive, arm action and first step mechanics.
